Wyatt Earp Days is starting this year on Saturday, May 25th and it runs throughout the weekend. Tombstone, Arizona streets will fill up by mid-morning each day of this event. Tombstone weather is generally pleasant enough in late May, owing to the elevation change from Tucson.
If we meet at the Sonoita Highway 83 & Interstate 10 junction by 7:15am Saturday, we can leave together around 7:30 and park in Tombstone’s Vantage West Credit Union parking lot, which most of the locals aren’t used to using on weekdays (and thus will most likely be empty Saturday morning because the Credit Union is closed). It’s then a short walk to the OK Cafe, which opens for breakfast at 7am. By this plan, we will probably get parking together in a nice enough lot for the whole day.
But if you don’t want to drive up so early for breakfast, and still want to enjoy the “Wyatt Earp Days” festivities, there are probably going to be a few available Tombstone parking spaces, but it will most probably take some searching. You might get lucky. After our breakfast, the first street gunfight starts around 10am. That is just a short walk to Allen Street from the OK Cafe. We can get a group discount (if we show up together) for the air-conditioned Tombstone Trolley Tour. There are also the 30 minute mine tours and a 3 hour mine tour.
Big Nose Kate’s and The Longhorn Saloon will probably have lines out their doors and at least a half-hour wait for lunch. The Credit Union parking lot is close to the Tombstone Brewery, which will have a live band, someone grilling hot dogs and pouring their brews in a shaded ramada area, beginning around 2pm. The restaurants, the brewery, the mine tours and trolley operators all take credit cards. None of them need to have a reservation, but it does help us to plan an estimate of our group size, so rsvp. Western wear is encouraged, but not required. No open carry sidearms, long rifles or shotguns are allowed within town limits, except by the re-enactors. Wyatt wouldn’t like it.
So there you have it. Ride with us early morning, or else meet up with us there later, but rsvp, and more details will follow.
